Edmonton’s Day of Caring
During the week of spring break, the Edmonton Foundation team volunteered with the Boys and Girls Clubs Big Brothers Big Sisters of Edmonton and Area (McCauley Club).
“This is the first time – to my knowledge – that the Edmonton team has volunteered with this organization,” says Jeff Ku, already an avid Foundation volunteer in his first year at Urban Systems.
“Normally the club hosts after-school programs and does their best to provide snacks and supervised activities for the kids in the area, who range anywhere from grade 1 to high school age.
“The kids were there since 10am and were preparing for a dodge ball tournament,” continues Jeff. “Chad Fletcher and Sara McCartney went to help set up the gymnasium for the dodge ball tournament while Laura Creswell, Sanghee Hong, Ken Hynes, Harrison Sheremeta and myself were in the kitchen making pizzas for all the kids.”
The Edmonton team is currently speculating on other ways to support the club so that they are able to maintain their programs all year.
“We will be finding other opportunities throughout the year to visit and do more days of caring,” Jeff adds.
