The City of Edmonton requested Urban Systems to carry out an evaluation of the current erosion of Goldbar Creek. Due to the outdated information available at the time of the study, and the lack of survey information for the lower part of the Creek, the scope of the work was divided into two phases: Phase 1 consisted of a site reconnaissance to assess the current erosion condition, and compiling field survey and boundary materials in order to update the City database.
Phase 2 involved the preparation of hydraulic models to predict the erosion conditions of the Creek for the future development of the basin, and propose proper measures for controlling and mitigating the instability of the Creek’s bed and banks. Cost estimates were prepared and a geomorphologic monitoring program was recommended, consisting of channel profile, cross-sections and bed and bank substrate characterization.
