Greenridge Heights – Sustainable Design Guidelines

Project Description

Our team worked in collaboration with Archineers and the City of Fort St John to prepare this collection of ideas, strategies, targets and deliverables. The goal of the report was to organize the drivers for sustainability into a workable format that could be used by a variety of groups – to deliver a truly sustainable development for the Greenridge Heights site in Fort St John.

A local expression or realization of sustainability in a ‘winter city’ environment requires a customized set of guidelines that cannot be merely copied from existing tools. The report takes into consideration the impact of snow removal, pedestrian (and driver) safety and microclimate effects, such as wind sheltering. The report sets out a range of guidelines addressing the following topics:

  1. Livability in a Winter City
  2. Social Well-being of the New Community
  3. Transport / Access
  4. Development Layout
  5. Sustainable Design Standards
  6. Active Building Services Systems
  7. Sanitary Sewage Treatment
  8. Solid Waste
  9. Construction Practices
  10. Operational Monitoring and Feedback
