Urban Systems worked with TransLink, area municipalities and the Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure to provide planning as well as functional and detailed design for the Marine Drive / Lions Gate Transit Priority project which provided tender ready documents for a Highway Major Works Contract. The transit priority project began with an assessment of conditions and corridor characteristics that contribute toward recurring delays and congestion during morning and evening peak periods. In order to increase people moving capacity, all agencies agreed on a process to identify and evaluate alternative transit priority configurations across 10km of Marine Drive leading to the Lions Gate Bridge. Once we developed a preferred long-term strategy, Urban Systems prepared detailed design that extended along Marine Drive from Tatlow Avenue in North Vancouver to the east abutment of the new Capilano River Bridge, including ramps, loop, overpass and approach to the Lion’s Gate Bridge in West Vancouver.
