Urban Systems, working in partnership with First Nations Market Housing Fund, is preparing a Land Use Plan and Zoning Bylaw to guide future development on Membertou lands. Located on Cape Breton Island in Nova Scotia, Membertou is facing significant growth in the coming years, and has promised to deliver on an aggressive housing program to provide on-reserve, market housing for members. The Land Use Plan and Zoning Bylaw are land use tools that will define how Membertou wants to evolve into the future considering future land use (i.e. residential, commercial, community facilities and such). These land use tools will also provide direction for other plans, policies and regulations that are used for the planning, development and operation of the community. These documents will inform the community, potential developers, senior government agencies, industry and business about the community’s vision for the future.
