The land located on the site of the former Calgary General Hospital in the established community of Bridgeland-Riverside represented a rare and exciting opportunity for the re-development of a relatively large parcel of inner-city land. The proposed development was approximately 33 acres in size and was developed as medium-density multi-family units, commercial and office uses, as well as a large open space component.
Urban Systems was retained on the project team to work with the lead architect to process and facilitate the land use and outline plan approvals, and to organize the supporting landscape design, legal survey and tentative plan, site servicing, environmental and geotechnical reviews, traffic studies, and the stormwater management plans. The interrelationships between the park spaces, land uses, built forms, access and pedestrian corridors were key components in the design and implementation of this project.
