Urban Systems is preparing an Integrated Stormwater Management Plan (ISMP) for the Upper Serpentine watershed. The project is built around a series of workshops with City staff from key departments to define issues and needs, understand each other’s perspectives, encourage ownership and action towards implementing ISMP recommendations, and articulate values and tradeoffs that may be necessary to achieve optimum watershed health into the future. Computer simulation of watershed functioning is a critical technical component plan, forming the basis for recommendations for urban runoff controls to mitigate the otherwise devastating effects on the watershed. Best management practices that emphasis “green infrastructure” are the foundation of these controls.
