Strachan Hartley Legacy Run

On October 14, staff from the Yaletown branch participated in Run Twelve of the Annual Strachan Hartley Legacy Run.

The run welcomed walkers as well as runners on a challenging 10km route. There was a stroller and dog-friendly 5km route, as well as a Kids Fun Race. The event is 100% volunteer-driven with all proceeds going to Streetfront Alternative, a Vancouver School Board alternative education program that the Yaletown Foundation team has supported in a variety of ways. In addition to math, science, social studies and English classes, Streetfront places an emphasis on physical activities and outdoor experiences.

The mission of the Strachan Hartley Legacy Foundation (SHLF) is to “provide youth the opportunity to achieve their full potential through sports and education” and they “believe in the inherent power of sports to educate and develop young people in a positive manner – to teach crucial life skills that can make a difference between success and failure; perseverance and giving up; between potential fulfilled and potential wasted; between energy used for the benefit of society, and energy used against it.”

Their philosophy aligns well with our own Foundation’s guiding principles. It’s no surprise that SHLF has supported Streetfront since 2008, and has now officially and permanently partnered with them.

Run Twelve raised about $48,500, breaking previous fundraising and attendance records! Thank you to JP for organizing our Urban Systems Foundation team for this event!
