We worked with the Lower Kootenay Band to help install a grid-tied photovoltaic solar power system on the south facing roof of the Band’s Administration Complex. It produces 5,650 kilowatt hours per year and supplements the electricity the band gets from FortisBC, reducing its energy bills. The system was supported with a grant from Indigenous and Northern Affairs Canada‘s (INAC) ecoENERGY program.
Our work with the Lower Kootenay community explored other clean energy development opportunities. For example, we developed a feasibility analysis to support the development of a community-based biomass heating system for the Administration Complex, Yaqan Nukiy School and other buildings.
