In 2012, the City of Fort St. John took a proactive approach in identifying the community’s interests and objectives in response to a proposal by BC Hydro to build an $8 billion dam on the Peace River. The City looked to Urban Systems to assist in developing a stakeholder engagement strategy, called Let’s Talk Site C, that would enable the City to take on its own public consultation. The strategy empowered the City to identify and understand the community’s concerns and aspirations for the project. By working together with community members, the City was able to craft and deliver a position paper to BC Hydro with confidence, knowing the objectives and interests conveyed within it fully represented the community as a whole. Let’s Talk Site C garnered the City and Urban Systems a prestigious international Gold Quill award of Merrit from the International Association of Business Communications (IABC).
