We completed a thorough review of data including two years of flow monitoring programs and computer modeling analysis to develop three mitigation options to prevent flooding in the Timberlea area of the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo, in Northern Alberta.
The three options, which would cost between $42.5M to $48M, mitigate flooding in Timberlea and don’t cause any flooding downstream. The best option mitigates approximately 60 per cent of the flooding concerns and maximizes the on-road disturbance during construction. We provided capital cost estimates and reviewed the constructability and construction process of the preferred option.
