The Town of Golden has a long-range plan to redevelop the area between the historic downtown and the Kicking Horse River. The vision includes vibrant year-round public gathering spaces, new private and public sector mixed-use development and improved connections to the commercial core for pedestrians and cyclists. With the support of senior government funding, the Town developed Spirit Square as the first phase in transforming this functional area into a riverfront showpiece for community events and gatherings.
We translated the high-level vision and the defined development program into a completed project. The schedule required completion within ten months and the site was initially limited to a public right-of-way ranging from 10m to about 30m wide. We also generated a concept to incorporate the required components, solved problematic soil conditions, and included additional project areas as these were secured by the Town during the course of design development.
