Stanley Park Causeway Pedestrian & Cycling Safety Improvements – BC Deputy Minister’s Award
In May 2013, a fatality involving a cyclist drew attention to the need for safety improvements along the Causeway. Following that incident, Urban Systems was chosen to deliver the preliminary and detailed design of pedestrian and cycling safety improvements to the Causeway. It was important that the project deliver significant safety benefits to pedestrians and cyclists, but at the same time, the improvements had to minimize impacts to the park’s natural and sensitive environment, and vehicle capacity and safety also needed to be maintained. The project was delivered in collaboration between the MOTI, the City of Vancouver, the Vancouver Parks Board, and local first nations, and included public consultation.
