The Viaducts Replacement Project in Northeast False Creek is an ambitious, once-in-a-generation opportunity for the City of Vancouver through the replacement of the Georgia and Dunsmuir viaducts with a better-connected street network. In 2016, Urban Systems and its team developed Preliminary Designs for the project including the extension of Pacific Boulevard - the primary east-west arterial in this area of the downtown. This included design of the connections to the existing street grid and accommodating active transportation modes and a future streetcar. Building off this preliminary design work, Urban Systems, in partnership with WSP, was later retained by the City of Vancouver to further advance the detailed design of roads and utilities. The project scope includes the detailed design and construction of approximately 8km of urban roads (retrofit and new) including road widening, medians, large boulevards, cycletracks, sidewalks, site furnishings, traffic signals, lighting, utility replacements, and more.
