Developing an Improved Wastewater System
Saulteau First Nations, located on Moberly Lake, BC, is home to nearly 1,500 people. For decades, wastewater challenges impacted quality of life, with frequent backups and costly maintenance. Working alongside the Nation and project partners, Urban Systems helped deliver a new wastewater system with a gravity collection system, lift station, and a treatment facility with aerated lagoons, UV disinfection, and reclaimed water discharge to an on-reserve wetland. Delivered using an Integrated Project Delivery (IPD) approach, the team collaborated closely from design through construction, ensuring the work reflected the Nation’s needs and values and enabled shared accountability. Despite complex conditions, the team adapted in real time. Local involvement was prioritized, reinvesting over $1 million into the community. The result is improved reliability, health, and long-term resilience—supporting a stronger, more vibrant community.
