From 2022 to 2025, Urban Systems supported the City of Burnaby with Burnaby 2050, a four-phase process to create a new Official Community Plan that sets the long-term vision for the city's growth. The Communications and Engagement team designed engagement to be accessible, inclusive, and reconciliation-oriented, working with the City's Director of Indigenous Relations and Reconciliation on a framework for engaging host First Nations. Tools ranged from open houses, surveys, and interactive maps to pop-ups, advisory councils, and sharing circles. In Phase 2, Visioning Dialogue events featuring live music and poets drew more than 500 people and more than 4,000 comments. Four events were planned, and two more were added at the community's request. The work builds on earlier projects with the City, including the Bainbridge/Lochdale Community Plan and Transportation Master Plan.
