Advancing a Nation-Owned Hydropower Project

Urban Systems has been collaborating with Nuxalk Nation on a hydropower facility at Nooklikonnik Creek since the project's inception. Working in partnership with the Nation's Clean Energy Coordinator, our team completed a comprehensive business case study of hydropower development opportunities across the Territory, then assessed the feasibility of the most promising site: Nooklikonnik Creek. We are now advancing the project by initiating key permitting processes, including on-site environmental assessments, while accelerating preliminary design and refining the project's financial viability. As of late 2026, the project is in final permitting and detailed design. Once energized, the Nation-owned facility will connect to BC Hydro's Non-Integrated Area, creating environmental, social, and economic benefits for Nuxalk Nation and the Bella Coola Valley.
