Developing an Improved Wastewater System

Saulteau First Nations, home to nearly 1,500 people on Moberly Lake, BC, faced decades of wastewater challenges — frequent backups and costly maintenance that affected quality of life. Working alongside the Nation and project partners, Urban Systems helped deliver a new wastewater system, including collection, a lift station, and a lagoon-based treatment facility with UV disinfection. Using an Integrated Project Delivery approach, the team collaborated closely from design through construction, reflecting the Nation's needs and values and enabling shared accountability. Despite complex conditions, the team adapted in real time, prioritizing local involvement and reinvesting more than $1 million into the community. The result is improved reliability, health, and long-term resilience for a stronger, more vibrant Saulteau First Nations.
