Rainy River First Nations Land Use Plan

Rainy River First Nations, also known as Manitou Rapids, has a long history and strong ancestral ties to its lands. Facing pressure from resource development in the region, the Nation led the creation of a comprehensive land use plan, with Urban Systems working alongside the community. The plan balances traditional and non-traditional uses of the land, bringing land use, economic development, infrastructure, and cultural planning together in one document. The work received a Canadian Institute of Planners Award for Planning Excellence in the Aboriginal Community and Development Planning category.
