Traditional Use, Knowledge and Ground-Truthing Study

As part of Doig River First Nation’s stewardship of its territory, members of the Nation work in an ongoing manner to document cultural Knowledge and resources that may be disturbed by proposed industrial projects. This study began with a desktop review of all known and documented cultural sites and use areas to identify potential intersections with proposed development. This was followed by several days of ground-truthing site visits to verify the location and value of these and other previously undocumented sites. We facilitated all site visits, as well as focus-group sessions and interviews with Knowledge Holders to better understand the history, sensitivities and concerns of land users in the area. Together, we identified potential risks from development and provided recommendations for the project to proceed.
