Smith's Landing First Nation

Indigenous Knowledge and Climate Change Study

Communities that share a close relationship with the land are particularly susceptible to climate change. Our team was asked to facilitate a climate change summit with western scientists and local Knowledge Holders, and to conduct a vulnerability assessment and adaptation strategy that addresses key community concerns. To explore some key vulnerabilities, land users spent time on the land, accessing and cutting trail, and shared their observations of environmental change and how these changes affect their livelihoods. Interviews were recorded and, in conjunction with archival cultural documentation, were used to construct an interactive project website that links elements of the past, present and future of the Nation in the context of climate change.
