EFCL 100th Anniversary Project

Since 1921, the Edmonton Federation of Community Leagues has brought neighbours together across the city, with a focus on inclusion that has never changed. To mark its 100th anniversary and honour a century of volunteers, the EFCL chose Hawrelak Park, Edmonton's largest park, as the site for a lasting tribute. Urban Systems' landscape architecture, engineering, and survey teams worked with the EFCL over eight years to bring the project to life. The result is the Community League Plaza, a covered, four-season gathering space built around a central fireplace, and an interpretive trail with displays, public art, seating, and interactive play elements that tell the story of the community league movement. The plaza opened in October 2020.
