Smart Renewables and Electrification Pathways Program

Lac La Ronge Indian Band is made up of six communities, each with its own energy needs and local context. Through a multi-year capacity building project, Urban Systems worked alongside the Band to develop a community energy plan for each one. Each plan reviewed energy consumption and identified and prioritized actions for energy conservation, energy efficiency, and energy alternatives. To explore those alternatives, the team completed a high-level feasibility review of solar, wind, hydro, geothermal, and biomass or district heating opportunities for all six communities. Since then, several communities have moved into in-depth feasibility work on the projects best suited to them. Lac La Ronge is pursuing energy retrofits for Kitsaki Hall, and Hall Lake is pursuing biomass energy.
